"Other" refers to kids who were not mentioned previously in this thread. These are kids who do not go to the normal wrestling powers in Las Vegas (CM, MOJ, LVHS, PV) either, so they probably may go under the radar. These kids are very very tough. I realized Craugh is also very tough - but these kids will give him a good go at it.

club wrestling in Vegas has had its challenges the last 3 years, i understand that those that tried to create a AAU centric organisation couldn't develop a viable organisation, but there is a major effort to bring back a USA club structure in the south. The USA State tournament is scheduled to be held in the south in support of that rebuilding effort and we all are hoping for the best Any help along those lines would surely be appreciated. In addition USA Nevada will have an All Girls division in freestyle for Cadets and Juniors at the State Tournament any girls interested in wrestling only women send me an email. Dana

There is actually going to be some "other" really good 103 pounders in Las vegas this year. Look for Shadow Ridge, Arbor View and Bishop Gorman all to have 103 pounders who have won youth national titles. So who are these kids from shadow ridge, arbor view, and bishop gorman?

Arbor view- Robbie Ireland Shadow Ridge- Sylvae Washington Gorman- Rick Hernandez
All 3 won national youth titles.
Stephen Hernandez - Gorman, is probably gonna be at about 125-130. He's the one who won Reno, Tulsa and was a WOW All Star when he was 6th or 7th grade.
All 4 have wrestled for Rattlesnake wrestling club

Dana You obviously don't have enough information to fully understand how complex the "club wrestling" situation in Vegas is at this time. AAU is alive and well in Vegas, they had nearly 400 registered card holders last year, people in the north, specifically George Ann Ritter has done everything in her power to create a division in the south. Those of us who believe in AAU never wanted USA to go away, she has just been steadfast in making a commitment to only USA. Many kids in Vegas have dual membership (USA/AAU) and wrestle several tournaments in Vegas, Utah and California. Vegas kids are getting plenty of tournaments and mat time to stay on top of their game. There is plenty of good wrestling in Vegas, just as there is up north. Interesting as it may be it comes down to a difference in philosophy, California is having a similar separation of what kids should try to learn first, Freestyle or Folkstyle, and they too are seeing a direct result of who is winning the state tournaments.

Ireland would be the only one of those to go 103. Washington and Hernandez will likely be at 112. DeGroat has to be considered the favortite among the southern 103 pounders.

No, Shadow Ridge is a 4A school in the Sunset conference. They are in the North West division with Cimarron, Palo Verde, Mojave, Centennial, Cheyenne, Arbor View & next year Legacy, the newest 4A school to open up in Las Vegas.

I said only what i'd been told by southern coaches over the last several years and what i observed. If in your mind 400 wrestlers in the LV area with approx 3/4 the state population vs 1000 in the north with only 25% of the population to draw from is viable(arguably) and IIRC less than half of the previous numbers when the south was USA only then I stand corrected. If the south was promoting wrestling (any style) as much as the north their numbers should be 2-3000. As to your rant about USA. USA and AAU are competitors, at the state and club level we who want to have affiliated ourselves with USA, the things that "I KNOW" George Anne or the board have been asked to do would violate agreements with USA and involved comingling of funds another legal no no. If the issue is 100% Folkstyle or FS/GR that shouldn"t happen in USA because of the position the clubs take as an affiliate with USA and its status as the NGB of wrestling by law. The things asked of the board and George Anne were the wrong things to ask and demand. If you want AAU then go on ahead don't ask people who have invested money and time in a USA program to start you up and give you special consideration. As for who wins state championships, i think it will break both ways depending, but who ever wins it's more likely to be the club wrestler who invests more time in the sport. Folkstyle is institutionalized in the US and there is alot of presure to groom only for that and the remote possibility of moving on to college wrestling. FS/GR doesn't have that same leg up, If learned properly the skill sets required of both are complimentary and I think the arguement can be made and supported that 3 style wrestler will have the advantage all other things being equal.Maybe you consider it an aberation but the 3A teams from the north took state pretty handily and alot of the placers were current or former 3 style wrestlers. I don't care what the south does, but every interaction I have actually seen indictate that their spokesmen feel they (the south) are right and we (the rest of the state USA) should change to their way of thinking, they couldn't convince the MAJORITY of the state board to their way of thinking so they picked up their marbles and left. George Anne in no way created the division, the Board simply said that to be a member of our association as a club and affilate association of USA Nevada certain responsibilities and requirements had to be met in accordance with the by-laws of our organization. The southern spokesmen said that was unacceptable. That leaves the AAU kids buying USA cards from an established USA Club or at a tournament.

To 3A and pinu2 also all others in the Nevada
The concept of the state having several wrestling organizations is a good idea for it allows the newer kids to get a familiar feel for wrestling before getting them selves thrown around a mat by the more experienced wrestlers. The concept of AAu for beginners also allows kids who can not afford the price or the USA card and the freedom to get involved with a great sport regardless of it is under AAU or USA. The debate and arguements that I have witnessed since moving to Nevada is ridiculous for both organization can feed off or each other and come out with a end result of a stronger wrestling program in Nevada. The acusations and the bickering needs to be stopped and a united front needs to be build to support both organizations so that the kids win in the long run. I have been around the sport for sometime and have seen in a variety of locations where both organizations have worked together to produce exceptional wrestlers. This was done by working together and looking out for te most imprtant aspect of the program "THE KIDS" not on each others organizations points of pride. I know who am I to talk since I have no business getting involved, But I see the sport hurting in the long run for the fueding between the boards and adults rub on to the kids and they get tired of hearing about this organization is better then this one. What are we teaching the kids if the adults argue over such a miner issue as which is right or wrong. They are both right and both wrong in their own perspective nothing is set in stone for either organization. The state bylaws for wrestling sould be reestablished so that the main focus is on creating a one state Nevada wrestling organization that support both organization. This would then allow the kid down the street who watches the wrestlers on TV and want to learn, but they cannot afford it or they have no one who is willing to teach due to the fighting going on with in the two organizations. The kid down the street who gets a chance to try wrestling could end up becoming an Olympic wrestler someday if given chance to enjoy a sport that instills accomplishment and pride in ones self.

while in general I agree that one united front is preferable, i have to wonder about the arguement that AAU is the cheaper alternative and as such the low cost way into the sport. the AAU organizers took over most of the USA clubs or established new clubs but enrollment is down by 50% if pinu2 was correct in the number of wrestlers. WHERE ARE THE NUMBERS TO PROVE THE IT. The concept of lower cost was based on a about a $25.00 difference in card price, at most 5.00 a month for a 5 month season November - March One meal at Mc D's a month. tell me no kid can afford that out of his own pocket if they want to do the sport. How many hundreds of dollars would the same parent fork out for baseball and football and then cry poor for wrestling. The money issue was/is for the most part total B/S. A red herring to make people think the real issue with this is about the KIDS, The folkstyle/FS/GR issue and who should be in control is where alot of this started and still seems to lie. Being from the north all we've known is USA and they have been a good organization to be with and all the money goes back into improving the program with education, providing camps and uniforming and sending kids to regional and national events. I like the organization i belong to and would fight any major changes that might dilute the success we have had. If someone wants to do AAU and make it fly, have at it. no one has been prevented from entering the USA state tournament they just have to have a USA card and be a Nevada residentand if AAU had a state tourney even if based on a 400 wrestler organization i might go to it also. If i can give my money to Roller and some of those others why not a nevada group. In my mind the benefits of USA membership far outweigh the small difference in card price, but again to each his own. As a thought, this may be a real cultural issue that won't be resolved. The north/south thing permeates every level of our Nevada "family". It has been reported that some in the south want to leave the NIAA because it doesn't go their way enough, the southern wrestling coaches pushed through a rule that says they don't have to shake wrestlers hands after each match (seems some of them couldn't be civil enough not to trash talk the kids when they came to shake hands), And in the political arena wasn't that a joke this year as well with north/south animosity taking more space than issues. east. So I have to respecfully disagree that the focus was the KIDS, because there were people involved and pushing the split who wanted to be in charge to do it their way because us hicks from Nevada weren't nearly as smart and into the wrestling scene as those from the big wrestling states back east. (now thats bickering/animosity/and accusation all rolled into one statement)
