I recieved this email, hope it all works out
Coaches,
I have put together an informal outline (proposal) for the changes to next year's State Tournament. Please review the document and get back to me before April 30th with any suggestions. This information will be put together in a more formal proposal and presented to the NIAA for their June meeting.
We need all 4-A schools in the state to review this immediately. If you know other coaches in town or in the state please call them to make sure they have reviewed it (I have learned that all coaches do not open their e-mails everyday).
We all have to be in agreement with this proposal. Also, every coach has to convince his principal to vote yes on this proposal.

Nevada 4-A State Wrestling Tournament Changes
• The Nevada 4-A wrestling coaches would like to seek a change in the State Tournament format for the 2007-’08 school year. So far 40 of the 45 4-A coaches have signed the petition agreeing to this change. We have six schools (3-northern and 2-southern) that still need to sign the petition. (Bishop Manogue, Reed, North Valleys, Desert Pines and Legacy.
• The petition states the following:
The following Nevada 4-A principals propose a change to the Nevada 4-A State
Wrestling Tournament. As outlined, we are in favor of changing the State
Tournament format to a sixteen (16) man bracket. We would like to see five (5)
qualifiers from two (2) regions and six (6) qualifiers from the third region. Each
year the region with six (6) qualifiers will rotate to a new region. We would also
want a separate site for the 4-A State tournament.
• The last sentence states that we would like to have a separate site for the tournament. This is not imperative. We understand that the NIAA wants to put all of the divisions at the same site. Until the NIAA finds a sponsor to pay for a large enough facility (Orleans Arena), we felt it would be best to move to a separate site (a school cannot handle all three divisions together).
• The following table points out the inequities in the current State Tournament format:
Divisions
represented at the State Tournament Number
of schools
per division Percentage
of schools
w/ wrestling *Number of student in
each division Percentage
of students in each division Current
8-man Bracket Proposed
16-man
Bracket
2-A 12 17% 3,442 3% 33% (8/24) 25% (8/32)
3-A 14 20% 11,040 9% 33% (8/24) 25% (8/32)
4-A 45 63% 102,508 88% 33% (8/24) 50% (16/32)
Total 71 116,990
*As per the Nevada Dept. of Education website.
• A 16-man bracket in the 4-A division would move the 4-A schools closer to a fairer and more equitable representation of the number of students it represents.
• An informal cost analysis of the above suggested change to a 16-man bracket would be as follows:
o To bringing eight (8) additional (4-A) wrestlers would increase the expense to the NIAA by 1/3 its current expenditure. This is figured by using the following formula: Eight (8) more wrestlers would increase the total number of wrestlers to the State Tournament (represented in all three divisions) from 24 to 32. Therefore, the percent of increase is 8/24 or 33%.
• The coaches would like to see the following proposal presented to the NIAA. The additional revenue for the above mentioned increase would come from all forty-five (45) Nevada 4-A schools. Each school will pay to the NIAA $355 to cover the 1/3 increase of eight wrestlers added to the 4-A division. These funds would come from each school or each team’s annual budget. The above mentioned figure was derived by dividing $16,000 (1/3 the cost of the ’07 tournament) by the forty-five (45) Nevada 4-A schools.
• This change would create a more fair and equitable representation of the Nevada 4-A division at the State Tournament.
• Please do not hesitate to call me if you have any questions. 499-3231.
