FERNLEY — The Spring Creek wrestling team is once again the Northern 3A league dual champion.
The Spartans dispensed of all seven league teams by a combined score of 447-114 on Friday and Saturday.
Yerington gave Spring Creek the toughest challenge, but the Spartans still won the dual 47-30. Perennial league contender Lowry fell to Spring Creek 57-24.
The other dual scores were: Spring Creek 78, Sparks 6; Spring Creek 70, Truckee 12; Spring Creek 61, Fernley 15; Spring Creek 72, Incline 12; and Spring Creek 62, Dayton 15.
Leading the way and going undefeated for Spring Creek was Nick Wooden at 119 pounds, Bryar Saddoris at 140 and Trinity Perkins at 145. All three finished 7-0 with multiple pins.
Going 6-1 for Spring Creek was Dustin Greener (103), Josh David (125), Alex Baker (135), Kamas Wing (171) and Tyler Collins (215).
No Spring Creek grappler finished with a losing record, as Colby Porter was 5-3 at 112, Chris Greener went 4-3 at 130, Casey Reynolds was 3-3 at 152, Richard Rasmussen was 4-3 at 160, Austin Baker went 5-2 at 189 and Kenny Miller was 4-3 at 285.
State berths will be determined this week when Spring Creek hosts a 3A divisional tournament on Friday and Saturday.
Carlin grapplers succeed
Only three Carlin grapplers participated in a 2-1A divisional dual tournament Friday and Saturday at Rite of Passage in Yerington.
Needless to say, Carlin lost every dual, but all three of its wrestlers finished with winning records.
Todd Jensen was 9-0 at 160 pounds, and should be the No. 1 seed at divisionals beginning Friday at Battle Mountain. Brad Haney was 6-3 at 112 and Trevor Hughes was 5-4 at 130.
Carlin’s other two grapplers — Chris Tangreen and Rex Westerwelle — didn’t participate, Tangreen because of an injury and Westerwelle because of grades. Both are expected to rejoin the team this weekend.
