Fallon coach Mitch Overlie said his team will savor its second straight championship at the Stockman's/Wilkens tournament on Saturday.
Fallon defeated Carson by one point for the title, but Overlie said he was pleased with how all his wrestlers performed.
Fallon had a "B" team entered in the tournament, and Overlie said the wrestlers had plenty of mat time. Although the team went 1-2, heavyweight Holt Bogdanowicz had a good day by winning three bouts.
Sophomore Fletcher Bowman, for example, wrestled heavyweight for Silver Stage, and he won every match. Bowman is 9-0 for the season. Overlie said Bowman wrestled for Silver Stage because they didn't have enough grapplers.
Overlie said his wrestlers are improving and becoming more positive. In another week, Overlie will be readjusting Fallon's lineup. That's when rules allow all wrestling teams to shift eligible wrestlers to different weight classes.
This year's tournament featured 16 teams competing in team bracketing. Lowry finished third, followed by Battle Mountain, Elko and Yerington.
Assistant coach Matt Reibsamen said coaches were happy with the tournament.
"We had good responses from coaches as well as the officials. We will use a similar format next year," Reibsamen said. "We are looking to extend the tournament to a two-day venue. If that happens, we will run pools on Friday to find the top eight teams, and on Saturday we would run two eight-team brackets. This would give teams between eight and 10 duals in the two days."
Reibsamen said the competition was good this year, but he said the tournament will probably not expand past a 16-team format unless there are changes.
"With a two day tournament, it would be possible," he said.
